Student Support is a term that, in our high school setting, replaces the word ‘Resource.’ Not only is the name different, so is the focus. The goal of the Student Support program is to provide support for all students who are experiencing difficulty in the classroom or who wish to improve their capacity to learn.
There are eight educational assistants (EAs) working at Sanford Collegiate, and it is not unusual to see them working alongside the teachers in many of the Grade 9-12 classrooms.
For students who are unable to manage the provincial curriculum due to cognitive challenges, individualized programming is developed by the resource teacher and implemented by the EAs. Our resource teacher, Vivian Brown, works to bring students, teachers, parents and clinicians together in the appropriate combinations to offer effective and efficient support.
